But let's start from the beginning. From a certain age, you don't make huge jumps of joy anymore when your own birthday approaches. Especially not when it's a milestone birthday. There's always so much you have to consider: Do I celebrate in a larger location or in our garden? Who do I invite? If Aunt Erika comes, do I have to invite Uncle Steffen too? And: Who takes care of food and drinks? I was very happy when my children offered to help me with planning and organizing my birthday party!
My husband and I live in a small town near Lüneburg and have a large property with a garden there. What would have been more obvious than to use that too? This summer it was time. My 60th birthday party was approaching!
Together Simply Better - The Organization and Preparation of My Summer Party
My daughter has a knack for decoration and decorated our entire garden with white and cream-colored lanterns, wooden torches and string lights. We built a fire pit with small wooden benches so the children could bake bread on sticks, and for the adults we set up a small wine and spirits bar for self-service at our garden house. To be completely honest: our garden had never looked more beautiful! My husband and son were mainly responsible for the food, as we had decided to use the great summer weather and grill.
We also asked some of our guests to bring salads, small snacks and sweet treats for the buffet instead of large gifts. We invited around 50 guests for the garden party. The first ones arrived at 4:00 PM and it didn't take long before the benches were occupied and our garden was filled. All our loved ones were there: family, friends and neighbors. It was totally uncomplicated, as everyone could serve themselves and I thus also had time to talk with my guests and simply enjoy the celebration. I was overjoyed that we had planned a great 60th birthday party with little organizational and financial effort! When I thought our little garden party couldn't be topped, my children proved me wrong…
An Unexpected Musical Performance - My Special Gift for the 60th Birthday
I was just talking with my best friend Heike when I suddenly heard music from the front part of the garden. I turned around and didn't know what to say, I was speechless! In the meantime, a small drum set, a microphone and amplifier had been set up on our terrace. The trio played the first notes of "Hey Jude" – my absolute favorite song! But how did they know that? When I looked into the mischievous faces of my children, everything was clear to me and I knew from whom I had received this magnificent concert.
Hugs and a few tears later, the first song was over and the band played the next of many great songs from my best time! Not only was I completely thrilled, our friends also began to dance and sing along loudly. What a surprise! I couldn't have imagined a better gift for my 60th birthday. At this point, once again many thanks to my wonderful children, my husband and all guests who made this birthday the most beautiful ever!
